2001 Topps Limited Set

Topps continued the high-end "Tiffany" concept with "Limited Edition" factory set. Each factory sealed set contains 791 cards and one of four 5-card Topps Chrome Future Archives cello wrapped packs.  Topps intentionally left out card #7 as a way of paying tribute to Mickey Mantle.

The main outer box is a white box with the Topps 50 Years logo, HTA logo, and words "LIMITED EDITION."    Inside the outer box, is a plain white box with the "Topps FACTORY SEAL" sticker on both sides.  The main box is  a specially made wood box with a gold label the same design as on the outer box.  To protect the gold label, the box is plastic wrapped around the label only.  On the bottom of the wood box is a gold label with the set serial #.  

The original print run was planned for 5000 sets, but actual production turned out to be only 3905 sets. 

2001 Topps Limited -vs- Base Cards

The Limited cards are easily differentiated from the original base cards by being printed on thicker, 20pt card stock, high-gloss coating and the words "LIMITED EDITION" gold stamped on the front. 

Unfortunately, due to the glossy coating on the cards, many of the sets have become "bricked" together.  That means the cards have become stuck together to form a brick shape.  These is no know way for safely "unbricking" the cards.  As a result, most of the cards have surface damage, resulting in a "snow" appearance due to the paper loss.  This has placed a premium on cards that are in near-mint condition or better.
