1887 N172 Old Judge Dan Casey Ball in Left Hand at Side PSA Authentic-Altered to PSA 6 (w/ PWCC-S sticker)

Consigned to PWCC and sold on 5/8/19 as a PSA 6 for $685.18

This Old Judge card was originally sold by PWCC in a PSA Authentic-Altered holder. Somehow, the card went from being certified as altered to being a PSA 6, the highest graded example on record. While it is unclear precisely what the alteration was, the card doctor rounded the two left corners of the card to make them appear more natural (see green box on image below).
I asked a dealer with experience handling Old Judge cards and he suggested that because many OJs were in scrapbooks, perhaps a layer of paper was missing from the card back, and thus the initial designation of Auth-Altered from PSA. In any event, the card doctor artificially recolored the back to make it look aged, soaking it in some sort of tan-colored solution (tea?) in an attempt to cover up any missing paper or skinned back.
Red boxes are marks and wear unique to this card, proving the two images are of the same exact card. N.B., this card was awarded a PWCC-S sticker, which is given to cards allegedly with Superior eye appeal in their grade. The fact that it had a sticker is what led me to find this card, as so many of these stickered cards are ones that Moser and other card doctors have a financial interest in.
