Another altered high-end card that was purchased at a major auctioneer, then re-appearing at PWCC a short time after. The pattern is clear: Brentsy & Friends love shopping for cards to alter at the biggest auction houses in the hobby, and there are likely dozens more to be found, perhaps hundreds if lots and collections are searched. This 1933 Goudey Gehrig was cleaned to remove the stain along the left side of the front of the card. However, the stain appears to have darkened and expanded outside of the area visible in the pre-alteration scan. What began as an oval-shaped brown stain has turned into a darkened area with a fuzzy appearance, clearly seen in the post-alteration scan. It is unclear if the surface is scuffed or damaged, but my best guess is that the area was rubbed with a brush or a similar implement.
Sold by Robert Edward Auctions (as a PSA 5) on April 13, 2018 for $3,600 to an unknown buyer.
Then sold by PWCC (as a SGC 5.5) on April 9, 2019 for $5,612.99.
