1934 Goudey #61 Lou Gehrig PSA 2 to PSA 3.5
Alteration types: Creases pressed, recolored
Sold on 11/8/2015 as a PSA 2 by PWCC to whitman111 (Gary Moser's eBay ID) for $798.00
Consigned to PWCC and sold to eBay user bradybunch_15 on 5/9/2016 as a PSA 3.5 for $1,675.00
Final price: $1,675.00
Value gain: $877.00
This is the card that collector and BO member skurtis discusses in his thread on his refund story from PWCC at the National. The PSA 2 card was originally purchased by whitman111, then it had multiple creases pressed out. The largest of this creases, based on evidence from the scan, has also been recolored green to cover up the color loss from the wear. It was then graded a PSA 3.5 sold to eBay user bradybunch_15. Eventually it was sold in person to skurtis.
Compare the PWCC descriptions of the card in its PSA 2 holder versus when it was in a PSA 3.5 holder—
PSA 2: Corner wear and creasing throughout downgrade.
PSA 3.5: A couple light surface flaws and a faint crease in the upper right corner account for the technical grade.
Red arrows and boxes point to areas where creases have been either reduced or eliminated. Blue circles are paper fibers and/or print marks common to both cards, confirming they are the same. Please note: I mistakenly thought his card was already posted by Corndog back in Post #4637. That was an unrelated '34 Gehrig that was also altered and sold through PWCC.
