03-02-2020 "The edges on the high-res scan of the BGS 9.5 show no signs of chipping despite there being significant chipping on the original raw scan. Also, did anyone actually watch the video from PWCC? They give very clear closeups of the edges from multiple angles. I went through it frame by frame and couldn't find any evidence of chipping." The below image that was snipped from post #6606 in this thread regarding the Lebron James card in question.
serf21 was the owner of the card when it was graded as a BGS 8 by Beckett.
In his post to an unnamed forum from November of 2006 he claims that he had sent it twice to Beckett and each time the card was graded a BGS 8.
So to clarify, according to the one-time owner in his own words, the card (while he owned it) was twice graded by experts at Beckett and each time the card was given the grade of BGS 8.
In the same post #6606 of this thread, another forum member in November of 2006 described the actual auction and included the Ebay auction link where the seller (serf21) sold
the card and noted in the listing that "The card is in near-mint condition with slight chipping on the bottom left corner".
Subsequently the card was sold by serf21 with the noted chipping to the lower left corner.
The same card resurfaced on Ebay in November of 2006 and the grade had improved to a BGS 9.5 with no mention of chipping
or visible chipping to the bottom left corner and the auction was ended without a sale (according to the 2006 forum post)." BlowOut →
Disputable Evidence
02-29-2020 "This copy sold raw on eBay on August 6, 2006 for $11.2k. Unfortunately, Worthpoint does not go past November 2006, but I was able to locate an image of the card from that auction. It is not obvious that there is any corner damage." BlowOut →
03-01-2020 "Now, let us examine the "evidence" of trimming proposed by these members. The photograph shown of the card in it's un-graded state points out the bottom left & right corner with notes (the bottom right corner note states, "Debris in scan goes off card") which is alarming in and of itself.
If anyone here is familiar with photo editing or photoshopping, you would know that absolutely ANYTHING & or EVERYTHING can be done to a photograph showing what the editor wants the viewer to see, to include adding lines that would indicate corner damage which is non existen; however in this case the editor of the photograph extended his line beyond the card itself (amateur mistake or oversight) not sure which but it is convincing enough to me and many others that this line was artificially added.
Something to think about:
IF this significant corner damage previously existed & the card was indeed trimmed, the spacing from the bottom of the text "2003-04 EXQUISITE COLLECTION" and the bottom edge of the card would be so significant, it would be absolutely impossible for the card to meet the dimensions published by Upper Deck for this product." 05-01-2020 In the March 03, 2020 letter from Beckett Grading (copy below), it is noted by Beckett that the card in question was initially graded by Beckett Grading experts
as a BGS 9.5 in November of 2006. After being reviewed by their experts again in March, 2020, the grade stands as a BGS 9.5 and is unaltered. BlowOut →
