1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle BVG 3 to PSA 2.5
Sold on 5/14/2016 as a BVG 3 by Heritage Auctions to an unknown buyer for $17,925.00
Consigned to PWCC and sold on 10/13/2016 as a PSA 2.5 with a PWCC Certified sticker for $27,877.80
Value gain of $9,952.80
The current VCP average price of this card is $28,135.10
This Mantle, once again first sold in its altered state through PWCC, had a lot of work done to it. Firstly, the scratch running down Mantle's neck into the card's nameplate has recoloring. See the green boxes on the image below for a comparison of the before (in a BVG holder) with the after (in a PSA 2.5 holder).
Secondly, each of the four corners shows signs of manipulation and reshaping by the card doctor. This is especially apparent in the lower right corner, which I've included a detailed image of below.
Finally, the card has been chemically brightened. Once again refer to the detailed image of the lower right corner below to see the drastic change in the card's toning.
Blue circles on the images of the card's reverse are print marks and/or paper fibers confirming the BVG 3 and PSA 2.5 are the same exact card. It is unknown at this time the identity of this card doctor or who bought the card in a BVG 3 holder from Heritage Auctions.
