I saved the most interesting altered card for last today. This T206 Piedmont Bat on Shoulder Cobb card did not increase in grade, but that was not for lack of trying on the part of the card doctor. This card was won by Gary Moser's whitman111 account on 6/6/2017, and then resubbed to PSA after its alterations.
Not only is the Piedmont back significantly whiter in its second PSA 5 holder, but the purple boxes I placed on the front also show evidence of chemical soaking. I believe the little black dot, which is greatly expanded in the "after" photo versus the "before," was an errant print mark that bled a bit when exposed to the liquid. Furthermore, the purple box on card's right edge shows significant fading of the black border line on the "after" card. The red arrows point to the ghosted image. The red dots are print marks. Taken together, they establish that this is the same card.
The final, detailed image is of the upper left corner of the card in both its "before" and "after" PSA 5 holder. Here is the PWCC catalog description of the card's main flaw for both:
PSA 5 "Before": A light crease in the upper left is all that prevents an even higher grade.
PSA 5 "After": Upon very close inspection we can discern a virtually absent wrinkle in the upper left corner. It took us a very long time to locate the flaw and we'd expect the overwhelming majority of investors to never locate it upon review; it's extremely faint.
In this final image, I decreased the brightness to -100. Creases are notoriously difficult to see in images, but you can clearly see this one in the "Before" PSA 5 Cobb when the image brightness is turned down. You cannot see it in the "After" PSA 5, which, in taken in total with PWCC's own descriptions above, leads to the logical conclusion that this crease was pressed out. This is another card found by sleuth "All Night Rocker."
