2019 • PSA 5 cert# 27341850 • BlowOut →
SGC Cert #:4531173
1909-11 T206 Piedmont Ty Cobb Red Portrait PSA 5 (w/ PWCC-HE sticker) to SGC 6 (w/ PWCC-HE sticker)
Alteration types: Corner rebuilding, chemical whitening
Sold on 12/10/2017 as a PSA 5 by PWCC to whitman111 (Gary Moser's eBay ID) for $7,990.00
Consigned to PWCC and sold on 9/9/2018 as a SGC 6 for $15,699.00
Final price: $15,699.00
Value gain: $7,709.00!
This card was submitted to me via e-mail tip by a person who wants to be known as "All Night Rocker." In any case, it is the fifth T206 Cobb Red Portrait that has been outed on Blowout as both altered and sold through PWCC (the others can be found on pages 60, 123, 127, and 130 of this thread).
This card was not trimmed, but was chemically treated, resulting in a whiter Piedmont back. Most critically, the upper left frontal corner, which showed some dirt and wear, was chiseled down and rounded by the card doctor, as shown in the third image below.
The blue boxes show corners that were significantly changed. The green circles are print marks confirming this is the same card. Please note that new-design SGC holders use randomized serial numbers. This makes it impossible to recreate a submitter's orders like can be done for PSA or BGS submissions. I'd love if someone can point out an article where SGC explains the rationale for this curious change.
